Besides its many breathtaking state parks and National Park protected areas, Maine offers many other entertaining attractions for visitors. There are heritage railroads, golf courses and clubs, lighthouses, and even an amusement park. For the history junkie or train enthusiast there are several options to enjoy. The historical Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Museum offers a wide variety of model and scale trains to view. Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad provides restoration and preservation of the original railroad along with steam train rides and educational displays. A portion of the original Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington Railway is run by a nonprofit that has passenger excursion trains in Alna, with nearby Maine lodging. The Seashore Trolley Museum located in Kennebunkport is the oldest and biggest of its kind in the world. It displays trolley cars, buses, and rapid transit trains.

There are several golf courses and clubs located in Maine, the most popular of which are Nonesuch River and Sunday River. The scenery makes for a refreshing day of golf and the courses are challenging for both beginners and the more advanced. In addition to all these great entertainment ideas, the kids and the young at heart will enjoy Funtown Splashtown USA amusement park. It features a variety of rides and games, including the Excalibur roller coaster. Get ready to scream and laugh while enjoying the mild and sunny weather. Or for the scientific mind, visit one of Maine’s two astronomical observatories. They are the Maynard F. Jordan Observatory and the Stephens Observatory.
