Touring Midcoast Maine

Thinking of going touring this summer?  With its beautiful scenery, the region of MidCoast Maine is a great spot to wander. MidCoast Maine was settled early in America’s history and boasts towns, architecture and institutions dating back to the 1700′s. Coastal Route 1 and the Maine Eastern Railroad link the towns of Maine’s MidCoast, crossing marshes and spanning rivers, with spectacular vistas and charming nooks all along the way. Turning off Route 1 will bring you to lighthouses, fishing villages, ocean views, beaches and rocky points.  Islands dot the coast and ferries connect them to the mainland.

A variety of resorts offer Maine vacation packages.  For example, the Sebasco Harbor Resort in Sebasco, Maine offers a wide range of vacation packages to fit virtually every budget and preference. The Sebasco Harbor Resort is a family friendly lodging property that sits on 550 oceanfront acres in Midcoast Maine. You can stay at a Maine resort like Sebasco Harbor Resort and take day trips from there – they are happy to pack you a lunch if you ask ahead.  Or wander where the road will lead and stop at one of the many restaurants you find along the way. Try to find the best lobster roll in the area, or sample clams and mussels dug locally.

Also offered in the area are many guided tours of historic homes and gardens, lighthouse cruises which bring you to see some of the many lighthouses located up and down the Maine coast, as well as bird-watching or whale-watching cruises. Maine resorts are happy to help you find and make arrangements.

During the summer, festivals and fairs are held throughout the region. From the National Boat-building Challenge and the Maine Lobster Festival to the Fisherman’s Festival and Windjammer Days, the region offers a decidedly Maine flavor to your trip.
