Something For A Miserable Day OUt

Brighton Short Breaks is a keen lover of Brighton Museum, which offers a brilliant destination for both the Brighton and Hove visitant and the resident for a number of reasons and not least the architectural spectacle of the  building itself.

Settled n the beautiful soils of the Royal Pavilion grounds, its architecture owes very much to the heritage and mode of the Pavilions architect, John Nash, repeating and reflecting some of the grandeur and flights of fantasy that the Pavilion personifies. But its roots arent quite so high as the edifice itself once housed the stables for the Royal Residence, although maybe the most thrilling stables to exist in the United Kingdom!

As the first-rate Brighton and Hove Museum web site tells us : ‘Brighton Museum was founded by local brewer and social reformer Henry Willett.  He was an zealous collector of clayware and porcelain and Mr Willett’s Popular Pottery showcases his collection.’

This is the foremost website for getting information on the opening times and particular exhibitions that are housed within the museum, but the most noteworthy piece of information is this: Admission is Free! So another great way to  spend an good afternoon if the conditions isn’t the warmest, and a way that wont try the purse!

The museum is mayhap better suited to somewhat older kids as it doesn’t contain too many of the ‘child attention grabbers’ that so many other museums put up. However that is not to say that there isnt a wealth of material there to snap their interest  – but a little and often approach might offer the best way to get the most out of this enormous local attraction.

As you would require there’s a mass of great local chronicle covered within the Museum and on the upper floor there are plenty of resources for retracing local history or private family history – so another possible  for the family to enjoy on a wet afternoon.
