Budget Honeymoon at Montezuma Costa Rica
The wonderful thing about going to Costa Rica for your honeymoon is the availability of options of all sorts to suit your travel requirements and budget. If money is not an issue, you basically can stay anywhere in Costa Rica but realistically most of the honeymooning couples are not like that. So of you are one of those couples who are on a tight budget, do not despair as there are plenty affordable places and accommodation around the country to ensure that you will enjoy your Costa Rica honeymoon. I have spoken to a few young married couples who have been to Costa Rica and most of them recommended Nicoya Peninsula as other than a beautiful place, it is also less crowded and more affordable as compared to the most established places like Jaco or Manuel Antonio. One of the popular tourists spot in Nicoya Peninsula is Montezuma which is located at the south on the edge of the peninsular.
Getting to Montezuma Costa Rica from San Jose will set you back by USD160 one way if you fly there but you may want to consider taking a bus which will only cost less than USD30 one way. You will have to take the bus from San Jose to Puntarenas and then hop onto a ferry to take you over to Paquera on the Nicoya Peninsula. From Paquera take a local shuttle to Cabuya and from there it will take another 30 minutes to reach Montezuma. It may seem like a long journey but the good news is that the road trip is worth it as you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and mingle with the friendly locals along the way. Be more adventurous and you can save up to USD100 which you can spend on a nice dinner later at Montezuma Costa Rica rather than on transportation.
You do not need to break a bank to stay in a decent hotel in Montezuma as there are quite a few affordable ones on town. One of them is Hotel Los Mangos which is located near to the main bus station and right on the beach. It has a pool and the rooms although have simple decor but equipped with the basic facilities for your convenience. The location of the hotel is very strategic as you can enjoy the beach as well as travel to town or even the national park easily. Rates start at around USD30 per night so it is considered as one of the most affordable hotels in the city. You need to book early as this hotel is extremely popular due to its location and rates. The other great hotel to stay is Luz de Mono which is located right on the popular Montezuma beach. Although the rates here are slightly higher than Los Mangos but you do get a lot more luxurious facilities here. The number of rooms here are also limited (only 12) so please book early to avoid disappointments.
